4 Apps to Help You Catch Some ZZZ's

Sleep is the highly coveted but often sacrificed act of recharging our brain's batteries. Why do we do undervalue sleep? We say we want to feel good physically, emotionally and mentally, yet we allow Facebook, youtube videos, tv and Ipads to invade our time, energy and personal resources, resulting in less sleeep.

To be honest, I like checking Facebook, partly because I like to keep in touch with friends and see the amazing adventures they are experiencing. I also like to know what is going on in my community and discover interesting articles. Knowledge is power. However, I also realize sometimes it can take over and interfere with healthy living.

Lack of sleep seems to be the #1 culprit in emotional outbursts in children and adults. It increases our vulnerability to emotions (along with poor eating habits, lack of exercise and chronic stress). Fatigue is also a core symptom of many mental health and medical disorders ranging from ADD/ADHD, depression, anxiety, trauma, FIbromyalgia, back and neck pain. Children and adults with ADD/ADHD also need 3 times as much energy as other people just to get out of of bed and out the door. Unfortunately, they often have trouble going to sleep.

Here are 4 apps to help make going to sleep and waking up a bit easier.

1. FREAKY ALARM requires users to solve a math problem before the alarm goes off. Don't worry, there's an easy setting!

2. WAKE AND SHAKE gets your blood flowing by making you shake the phone vigorously in order to turn off the alarm.

3. SLEEP CYCLE gathers info about your sleep patterns and wakes you up during the lightest sleep cycle. It works with the accelerometer in your phone to monitor your movement.

4. AUTOSILENT Ever forget to turn off your phone during an important meeting? AutoSilent silences your phone based on calendars or a timer. It can also detect your location and automatically mutes your device while at church or school. Great for a quick power nap in the middle of the day.
